Bristol Jazz Week – Dec 21

December 19, 2014

Most venues missing out Christmas week, so only one recommendation from Tony Benjamin – for next weekend.

Pee Wee Ellis & James Morton/Rich O’Brien Project, Fleece, Sun 28
Cool nu-soulful support comes from bassman Rich’s groove machine – think Marcus Miller meets Soulive, with Joe Price’s guitar and Garyb Alesbrook’s trumpet just two of the key ingredients – but funk legend Pee Wee is still going to steal the show in this collaboration with his flamboyant younger saxophone protegé. Expect sizzling crossplay action and a surprising amount of jazz.
However, I notice that James Morton, surely the hardest-working musician in Bristol, is also scheduled at the Golden Lion on Gloucester Rd the night before.
Otherwise, plenty coming up on January – when listings here will resume!
