Coming up – new music, new venue on Monday

July 4, 2013

Haven’t made it to any gigs for a month, but some coming up which demand attendance. There’s Snarky Puppy’s heavily arranged but characterful jazz/rocky show at Colston 2 tonight.

And from the local scene, one you may not have spotted so do note the details. The newly chartered Bristol Composers’ Collective take over the agreeable space of the Wardrobe Theatre upstairs at the White Bear on Cotham Hill on Monday 8 July.

One of the instigators, bassist Greg Cordez says:

On monday there will be three performances of new music, by Jake McMurchie’s group (Will Harris, Mark Whitlam and Dan Messore), my group (Jake, Nick Malcolm, Mark Whitlam, Jim Blomfield) and an exciting debut of new lineup by Kevin Figes octet (Kev, Whitlam, Will Harris, Jim Blom, Emily Wright, Cathy Jones, and Lloyd Haines). Its a heck of a lot of good music and would be great to get your support

Yet another reminder of how many fine creative musicians we have in Bristol. Seems like one not to miss, if only to find out who the mystery 8th member of the octet is…  Things get going at 8.00.

Incidentally, this one doesn’t seem to be on the venue’s website, nor made the Venue listings (yet), so  spread the word if you can.
