Coming up – Will Vinson, Coronation Tap

July 15, 2012

Update: Apparently Will isn’t going to make it tonight (cancelled flight). James Gardiner-Bateman will play alto with the same band, so will still be a good gig though.

Here’s a nice date to lift a Monday night – Will Vinson, with a superb band, at the Corrie Tap. This is what they say about it:

Monday July 16 2012 9:00 pm

WILL VINSON

Originally from London, alto saxophonist/composer Will Vinson moved to New York City in 1999 and has remained there ever since. Since his arrival he has appeared and/or recorded with Gonzalo Rubalcaba; Jonathan Kreisberg; Marcus Gilmore; Chris Potter; Aaron Parks, and many others. Will is a member of a number of leading New York ensembles, Rufus Wainwright’s band, has an international reputation as a leader and sideman, and is described as “an exciting young altoist with a lethal approach to writing and soloing” “‘playing with an unrelentless force”.

This gig has been brought to us by JayGeeBee Promotions and Will will be joined by Gareth Lockrane, flutes; Tom Cawley, piano; Sam Lasserson, bass, and James Maddren, drums.

Adm/£5

Venue ‘Choice’: “One-time Bristol jazz scene star – now a big noise in the Big Apple!”

And here’s my take on his (extremely good) playing on his last visit – two years ago I see, when he brought some of the same cohorts. We still had Ian Storror’s programme at Future Inns then (rot them). Good there is another venue for them this time.
