Gig of the week – Loz Speyer, Be-Bop Club

September 21, 2011

Haven’t scouted round really, but this sounds promising – Loz Speyer down at the BeBop club in Hotwells. Seems to have escaped Venue’s listing, and its the second week of their new season after the Summer break, so time we got down there.

Andy Hague’s blurb says:

Trumpeter Loz Speyer takes this fabulous group on a short SW tour with  a mixture of London & Bristol musicians. Loz blends his beautifully crafted melodic compositions with elements of free improvisation to great effect. Loz Speyer – trumpet, Rachel Musson – sax, Jake McMurchie – sax, Olie Brice – bass and Mark Whitlam—drums. “Sophisticated and harmonically intriguing.” – John Fordham, The Guardian. “The playing from all parties is superb throughout, warm, agile, inventive and technically brilliant. Highly recommended.” – Ian Mann www.thejazzmann.com

An interesting mix of familiar and unfamiliar players. As he says, intriguing.
