Gig of the week – Marius Neset, Sunday

August 30, 2011

Lots of reasons why this is the only contender for gig of the week. It is first of a trio of dates at Colston Hall’s smaller venue which have been kept alive by the ever-optimistic Ian Storror after the untimely demise of Jazz at Future Inns. He deserves a decent audience to repay the risk he must be taking.

But the main reason is that Neset is one of the most startling young musicians around, his debut CD earlier this year attracted plaudits from all and sundry, and is truly unusually good. Word is that seeing him live (he came over to Manchester a couple of months back) is even more remarkable. Much more detail here. If you are reading this, just go!
